River Avenue, sitting snugly beneath the El, is Main Street in the world of Baseball. Yankee Stadium sits majestically beside it, and the new Yankee Stadium is rising one block down the street.
Jodester - no, that El (for "elevated subway") is in the Bayridge section of Brooklyn. This one is in the Bronx. I think Tony Manero was a Mets fan. (They play in Queens) :)

What becomes of the old stadium when the new one is open.
The Bronx, the only part of NYC on the mainland. ;)
I understand the stadium will be demolished but the field will remain. I believe there will also be a Yankee museum and a park.
